Heartfelt Sorrow - The Jamaican-American Association of Central Florida joins the world in expressing heartfelt sorrow to the American government and people for the loss of lives in the destruction of the World Trade Center and the Pentagon on September 11, 2001.

Annual Christmas Party - In December, the Jamaican American Society has an
Annual Christmas party for our members and their friends. We also donate toys and
items to the needy at this event. Dec. 14, 2001


Jamaica's 39th Birthday Celebrated Orlando Style - The Jamaican American Association of Central Florida celebrated Jamaica's 39th year as an Independent nation with a dinner dance at the Holiday Inn on August 4, 2001. The function was attended by many Caribbean and American friends who joined to make this "Independence Bashment" a success. A sumptuous dinner of baked chicken, vegetables, rice, iced tea and carrot cake was served at 9:30pm.

Operation Fresh Start - The Jamaican American Association volunteers quarterly
for Fresh Start. Fresh Start is a short-term residential program designed for rebuilding and restoration in the lives of men who want a new beginning.


Zora Neal - Zora Neal Festival is held yearly to celebrate the life of Zora Neal Hurston in the oldest black city in America. The JAA volunteers annually to assist in
this event.


Sponsor - Spelling Bee Champion - The Jamaican American Association held a luncheon in honor of Miss Jody-Ann Maxwell, winner of the 1998 National Spelling Bee. Approximately 100 people attended the luncheon to help raise college scholarship funds for Miss Maxwell's. These funds will be handed over to Miss Maxwell's when she begins college.


Black History - The JAA celebrates Black History Month by having a speaker or by
participating in a Black History event.


Bus Trip - On Mothers day 2001, the Jamaican American Society traveled to St. Augustine. There were approximately 48 people. While in St. Augustine, we went on a cruise, shopping, and had a lovely lunch. It was an event enjoyed by all who attended.


Bowl-a-thon - The Jamaican American Assoc. sponsors a Bowl-a-thon twice a year to help raise money for our building fund.
